The Good Food Project launched earlier this year as a group purchasing initiative for people across the UK to buy ethically-sourced food as well as safer and better quality household cleaning and personal care products. Their aim is to leverage combined purchasing power to negotiate the best deals and prices, whilst supporting smaller businesses, farmers and growers who share their ethos and values – bypassing the big supermarket chains while delivering good food at affordable prices to their members. We asked them a few questions to get to know a bit more about the project.

Tell us a little about how you started and what you do?

We saw a market gap to service a growing number of conscientious consumers who no longer want to buy heavily processed food and factory farmed meat from the large supermarkets.

It’s been a hard few years for everyone, how did the impact of Covid affect you?

We only started Good Food Project in May 2022 but the impact of covid over the past few years certainly helped in many ways to galvanise a large section of society to look for alternatives to the offerings of the mainstream supermarkets and large corporations.

Tell us about your customer base

Our customer base prefers more ethically sourced, chemical-free, Organic food as well as more natural ways to stay healthy. They would much rather support local, independent businesses as opposed to the large supermarkets and chains.

With the cost of living rising how do you think your customers will be affected, and what measures can organisations like yourself take to help?

All customers will be affected, and we have given a lot of consideration to the challenges ahead. We don’t need to advertise as all our business comes from our social media group members and word of mouth. They are extremely loyal to this initiative so we are finding ways to ensure that they can afford to buy from us no matter what the economic outlook is like. About 70% of our base are happy to bulk buy and pre-order which helps us drive down costs and allows them to shop organically for less.

What is your favourite brand/product and why?

We are big fans of Biona, Essential and of course Greencity. We like the backstory to these organisations and their corporate ethos can be seen in their product range and quality.

Why do you use Greencity as a wholesaler?

We have a large customer base in Scotland, and many are familiar with Greencity. We find Greencity easy to work with and they’re extremely experienced in this sector; we’ve found Greencity’s industry knowledge to be extremely useful to us. Everyone from the accounts team to the techies, sales staff and drivers are all great to deal with - good old fashioned customer service like this across an organisation is hard to find these days!
