Two Birds Cold Blend Coffee is very much a new kid on the block but has certainly hit the ground running. It's a unique drink, blending cold brew coffee with vitamins and Echinacea for a delicious and healthy on-the-go pick me up. We asked enthusiastic founder Danny 6 questions, and here's what he had to say...
1.How/why and when did you start your business?
We launched our first drinks product, our Vitamin Enriched Cold Blend Coffee, at Glasgow Coffee Festival last May 2019. It was a phenomenal couple of days where we got genuine feedback on hundreds of tastings with the Glasgow coffee community and picked up our first few stockists in the process!
Two Birds was born when working my 9 to 5 and I used to add Echinacea drops into my morning coffee and take my vitamins on the side when I was feeling under the weather. I wanted to combine the two in a convenient grab and go for busy lifestyles!
Our family has always been passionate about coffee and food (lots of it!) and we used to own a restaurant up in Aberdeen called MUSA where supporting local music and art was a focal point! We have all loved the exciting journey the brand has been on so far!
2. What advice would you give to someone starting a new business in the sector?
Collaborate! Find exciting new brands, local/independent businesses and people that share your passion and drive then find out how you can help each other grow.
Oh and chap on plenty doors! If you are selling something you believe in and enjoying every wee hurdle that you come across then your passion for your product will shine through!
3. What motivates you?
Knowing we are an independent family business who are motivated to make a real a difference in the health and wellbeing sector! Seeing people enjoy our Cold Blend and interact with Two Birds as a brand is also very motivating, whether it be on social media or in the flesh when the logo catches their eye and we get to have a proper blether!
We all muck in when it comes to events it’s exciting to be building a positive brand that brings people together through their love of food, drink and music.
4. How do you think the food & drinks industry could improve?
Bigger and better events, in Scotland in particular, where there is a cross-over and opportunities for food and drinks brands to work with music, art and sport!
While Brand Scotland is associated with quality, premium products, we still have some way to go to bring the average standard of our diet, food and food knowledge (especially in the young) up to that of Continental Europe. Quality independent businesses and start-ups are the driving force in improving quality and perceptions so we should support them more!
5. Is there an individual or organisation, current or in the past, who inspires you?
Yes, my Mum and Dad inspire me! Their past businesses, their positive and uplifting outlook on life and the hard work they put in to set up social enterprise and youth charity, Transition Extreme Sports Centre which has been going strong in the North-East of Scotland for over 15 years now!
6. Apart from Greencity, which other three or more people, living or deceased, would you invite to make a dinner party entertaining?
Otis Redding, David Attenborough, Muhammad Ali, Billy Connolly and Stevie Nicks.
